Pervasive Troubleshooting

If you are using The General Store Workgroup (2-5 users), Pervasive sets it's own gateway (this is not the gateway specified in your network properties).  If you do not specify a computer as the Pervasive gateway, the first computer on the network to access the database will act as the gateway (this is by design).  To assure proper operation of The General Store, set the Pervasive gateway manually (Start > All Programs > Pervasive > Pervasive.SQL > Other Utilities > Gateway Locator).  Click Change under Directory Status, click the button with three dots (...) then navigate to the computer name of your server and select it. You must make this change on every system on the network, then reboot each computer.

Problem:

Error Code 161 - Operation open - Controls.R2K

Solution:

Ensure that you have entered your Pervasive license information correctly.  Start > All Programs >  Pervasive > PSQL > Utilities > Pervasive License Administrator.  All licenses are entered on the server or main system only.  This includes your Base License and any User Count Increases.

If your workstations are not correctly resolving the name of your server or main station the License Administrator on the workstation will not connect to the main station.  In that instance, you should do the following:

  1. Set the server or main station to a static IP address that falls outside the scope of your DHCP range.

  2. On the Workstation, run Notepad as an Administrator

  3. Open the Windows Hosts file (c:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

  4. Create an entry pointing to the server IP address

  5. Save the new Hosts file

Problem:

Error Code 3016

Cause:

Improperly configured network and/or users.

The Pervasive Engine has not started automatically, or has been prevented from starting.

Solution:

Some anti virus products may detect the Pervasive application as a 'false positive' and prevent it from starting.  In this instance you can start the engine manually using the Windows Services applet.  You should set the startup for Pervasive to:  Automatic (Delayed).
