It is critical for both your General Store data and any credit card operations that your internal network be secure. General Store Technical Support can assist you with basic networking, however, it is the end user's responsibility to secure the network from outside intrusion.
These instructions pertain to the way in which you log in to Windows. Your Windows computer must be configured on the network with correct users/permissions, etc. These instructions do not apply to The General Store. You can have different Windows users and General Store users.
Each computer on the network must be logging in to Windows and the network with a unique User Name (See: Adding Users)
Each of these users must have a login password (the password can be the same for all stations/users on the network)
On the Server (or main) station:
Each login user on your network (regardless of the operating system on that station) must have a User Account on the server computer (main station in The General Store). To add your users:
Open Control Panel
Select the option: User Accounts
Select the option: Manage User Accounts
Click: Create New Account
Enter a user name from one of your stations
Select the Administrator option
Select Create Account
From the Users screen in Control Panel, select the new account you just created
Select the option to create a password, and enter the password you assigned on the station itself
Repeat for each user name on the network
When all of your users are entered, exit from Control Panel
Determine what parts of the server drive you need to share (Remember: to use The General Store, you must share only the c:\Genstore folder).

Enter the individual user names you created under Control Panel one at a time (ex: POS1;POS2;POS3, etc.)

Check the option to: Read/Write
Click OK
